I have this tendency to be very late to the party for cool new things, and I wrote in July about how this played out concerning music from the 1990s.

Well, I’ve been extremely bored with the internet for the past six months or so, finding myself browsing through my tired old bookmarks hoping to find something interesting or even exciting to blog about, feeling like I was only barely scratching the surface, but not really wanting to spend a lot of time digging deeper.

As it turns out, back in 2001 StumbleUpon was rolled out especially for people suffering this very same malady, only it took me nine years to figure this out. Oh, I’d heard about StumbleUpon for years, spotted the logo you see here on thousands of websites featuring sharing buttons for services like Facebook, Twitter, Digg, and Reddit, and I even have the StumbleUpon button on all 292 Fish & Bicycles posts I’ve written to-date.

But then, yesterday, we were visiting a friend in Seattle, he had his MacBook Pro hooked up to a large flat panel LCD TV, and he used StumbleUpon to show us dozens of favorite websites that he’d found just Stumbling around.

I finally got it and I’m hooked.

I know this is starting to sound like a cheesy commercial, but I’m just excited as hell to have this tool for randomly browsing websites that I’d otherwise have no idea existed.
