As mentioned last Thursday, the family and I moved into new digs here in Bellingham this weekend, and it thoroughly kicked my ass.
But, to say that we moved, using the past tense, as anyone who has done so after nearly 20 years in the same house knows, is a gross overstatement.
Yes, all of our possessions have been relocated to the new address, but those possessions are still mostly sitting in boxes scattered all throughout the house, and they will all be moved many more times before we are fully moved in.
My father, who worked his whole career in the moving and storage business, of course pointed out the obvious, that it would have been SOOOOOOOOOOO much easier if we had hired movers.
Thanks, Dad.
I will say this, I intend to open up a special savings account and deposit some money into it every month so that, 30 years from now, I have a chunk of money available to hire movers.
Never again.
One last thing: As I went looking for a photo to include in this post, I discovered a vast body of moving propaganda, designed to deceive the unsuspecting into thinking that moving is a rather pleasant pastime.
I mean, look at the smiles on these people!
Yeah! Moving is so much fun! So fun, in fact, I think, just for kicks, I’ll move everything back to the old house this weekend and then bring it back to the new house one more time!
And that’s just a small sample. Go ahead, check out Google Images! You’ll find a lot more like this guy. He’s carrying a whole house…and he’s still smiling!
Who the HELL do they think they are kidding with these images?
THIS, is about the only one I found that captures the reality of moving, and it’s not even a real person!
So, just remember, you’ve all been warned!
