Staycation Day 2: Rock Climbing @Mt. Erie

Well, yesterday’s adventure wet our appetites, so the family and a friend are now here at Mt. Erie, rock climbing the Powerline Wall.

Gorgeous weather once again, spectacular views of the Puget Sound, covered in clouds, and the San Juan Islands in the distance.

I feel so blessed to live in such a beautiful place!

Eyecatchers: Skateboard Shades

This is frickin’ awesome!

I just stumbled upon the following outrageously cool example of creative recycling and repurposing via Good.is.

There’s a bit too much skateboarding footage than I’d prefer at the beginning, before getting to the point, but once there I found it a blast to watch.

Turns out the woodshop genius in the video is from Portland, Oregon-based Shwood, a company that makes a range of wood-framed sunglasses, which are very cool, but an average price of about $135 per pair?!!

Gulp.

Don’t Go To Vashon Island

If you are like me and you thoroughly abhor peace and quiet; if you despise misty mornings on pebbly beaches; if you loathe bicycling on rolling country roads lined with small farms; if you detest quaint villages where you can walk to everything; if you disdain small-but-vibrant farmers markets with locally grown produce, arts and crafts, and live music; if you curse the warm glow of a firepit on the shores of Puget Sound…

…just leave Vashon Island alone.

Seriously, that Vashon remains the wonderful place that it is is nothing short of a miracle, given its close proximity to the two major cities of Seattle and Tacoma. If it were not for a lack of a bridge connecting the island to the mainland, as well as a shortage of potable groundwater, I fear that the island would be consumed by development.

So, really, don’t go. You will not hurt Vashon’s feelings. Trust me.
