Work in Progress: Old Dog, New Tricks?

I’ve not posted anything here at Fish & Bicycles in four days, partly because I’m wrestling with a health issue that has me facing some tough choices. Pretty preoccupying stuff, so preoccupying that I haven’t even found the headspace to report on a wonderful day at Mt. Baker this past Sunday.

I’ve got a rather long piece in the works in which all will be revealed, but I won’t leave anyone hanging on and worrying, so I’ll say right here that there’s nothing critical the matter with me.

Stay tuned.

Work in Progress: Google…cars?

Not content with computers and cell phones, Google seems to be playing into the hands of conspiracy theorists who claim the company has designs on global domination.

More soon…

Work in Progress: Don’t Joke with the Pope

So much to say about this story, so little time at the moment.

Britain Apologizes for Pope Jokes

Needless to say, I love British humor.

Work in Progress: Scottishness, Medical Marijuana

To paraphrase the famous sage, Willy Wonka: So much time, so little to write about. Wait a minute. Strike that. Reverse it.

I’ve got two posts in the hopper, one on an article from BBC News about Scottish identity, the other a reaction to a New York Times piece on medical marijuana.

One hits home and the other seems like a major red flag to me.

So, stay tuned and find out which is which.

Work in Progress: Boundary Bay vs. Chuckanut

If you know me, you know that I loves me some fine, hand-crafted fermented grain beverages, particularly down at Boundary Bay.

Well, I recently moonlighted at our other award-winning brewery here in Bellingham, Chuckanut Brewery and Kitchen, and naturally I’ve got something to say about it.

Work in Progress: A Serious Man

Saw the new Coen Brothers film last night, and naturally, since I’m a Jew who grew up in the 70s, I’m going to have something to say about it.

God willing.

Work in Progress: Swell Season, Johnny Cash

As mentioned in my last post, here’s the first Work in Progress entry, a peep at what’s coming down the pipe.

I’ve got drafts for two pieces going.

First, I’m working on a review of sorts of the new album by The Swell Season, otherwise known as that guy and gal from the film Once. I say of sorts because, interestingly enough, I was moved to write something about the album, not because of the music, but because of a poem printed in the liner notes.

Secondly, I’ve got a reaction to an article in Salon that taught me something about Native American rights activism and, surprisingly, Johnny Cash, that I never knew.

So, stay tuned!
